‘’Funklore’’

FADE IN:
EXT. PARK – MORNING
The sound of falling rain pounds in the background. Slowly DODE, a monkey with grey fur and purple eyes, appears high in a tree. Sitting under another tree nearby, silver hair and green eyed young woman FELICITY is holding herself close silently crying.

A young man, IRURI, black hair and red eyed, walks past, he stops and conjures an umbrella from his mind, FELICITY looks up, IRURI blushes, she walks away. IRURI follows her.
IRURI
I was only trying to help

IRURI pulls at her sleeve, FELICITY, slaps him away.

FLASH TO WHITE:
INT. HOUSE – AFTERNOON
A young FELICITY is creating shapes in the air with her mind, she is smiling with her family.

FLASH TO WHITE:
EXT. ALLEYWAY – LATE NIGHT
A teenage FELICITY is held at knife point, her mother, ALICIA, goes to hand over her wallet but mid action lunges at the robber. The blade only draws little blood as it slides across FELICITY’S throat; it is then thrust into ALICIA’s heart. ZED, her father, gives chase. FELICITY is left with her mother’s lifeless body.

FLASH TO BLACK:
EXT. PARK – MORNING
IRURI’s facial expressions register that he too has seen the vision; he holds his throat as tears start to form. FELICITY goes to hold IRURI.
IRURI
I had no Idea

A teenage IRURI is playing in the corridor creating objects from his mind.

INT. KITCHEN – EVENING
IRURI enters the kitchen creating a tennis racket, which accidently hits his mother ZYRA while she is preparing dinner.
ZYRA is infuriated and swinging around with a knife, lunges towards IRURI, he puts his hands up in confusion and defense. The knife slices into his hands; she then kicks him away and holds her head.
ZYRA
UGH! I’m so sick of your shit!

IRURI creates a skateboard on which she slips and falls. IRURI runs before she has time to recover.

FLASH TO BLACK:
EXT. PARK – MORNING
FELICITY and IRURI are still holding each other, crying in the rain. DODE watches on quietly.
A yellow eyed SLOTH crawls out of the fountain behind them.

MONTAGE:
EXT. PARK – MORNING TO EVENING
A fast sped-up montage of the rain getting heavier, the sun zooming across the sky and finally the moon taking its place; reveals the two falling asleep on the other side of the tree FELICITY was initially crying under. Meanwhile, the SLOTH, which originally appeared normal sized, has now become huge and towers over them.

EXT. PARK – EVENING
The couple awakens to the sight of the SLOTH swinging its claw at them. They both cringe. DODE leaps in front of the SLOTH's swing and gets knocked away from the fight, unconscious.

IRURI
I got this

IRURI charges at the SLOTH. FELICITY on the other hand, faces it and closes her eyes as she lifts her hand and slowly conjures a van (balancing on its rear bumper) with her mind. IRURI runs towards the giant SLOTH, wielding his umbrella in his right hand and using his left to create steps he proceeds to climb. IRURI jumps on the SLOTH's shoulders; he hits it on the head 3 times, turning the umbrella into a baseball bat and a sledge hammer for the final blow. Satisfied IRURI jumps off SLOTH, which now looks dizzy and in pain.
FELICITY
Ah funggit (funk it)!

FELICITY finishes the SLOTH off by giving the van a light push, squishing it right down, fan dangled. FELICITY and IRURI look at each other and smile. IRURI looks at DODE, who is still unconscious. FELICITY, standing the closest to him, picks him up and cradles him.
FELICITY
Thank you mister Dode

IRURI
Is that his name? Groovy I like it! Hey Dode (pokes DODE’s cheek)

IRURI (cont’d)
I’m Iruri by the way

FELICITY
Felicity, it was really nice meeting you

IRURI
You too

IRURI throws his arm over FELICITY’s shoulder and makes an umbrella large enough to shield the three of them from the rain. DODE opens his eyes, gazes at the couple then closes them again.

ENDING CREDITS –
The ending credits are a slow fade to black featuring the three protagonists walking into the distance in a looping animation.

  1. A good start and some good ideas coming through. Pull this through to a step outline so you get an idea of how long this will be and good to see you are thinking about your story visually as this is very important. Good work.
